Halloween 2012

 Jovey loves to paint... she loves anything in the arts fields as a matter of fact.

 And we painted pumpkins

 Went trunk-or-treating (Jovey is a baterina, Coryn a zombie pirate, and Carter is obviously Kwazii, the pirate cat from Octonauts)

 I carved a pumpkin (or three because they don't do knives yet)

And keeping with tradition, Coryn changed outfits between events, here he's a blue-haired mad scientist.

Halloween

BOO! yeah, I got creative with my pumpkins this year, I think it was a neighborhood favorite :D















let see, we booed at the zoo (with a trip to the Burville cider mill just before) and the 710th party (all in one day)

went to the church celebration (no trunk or treat this year, but the kids still have Halloween candy so its not like they were lacking....



plus the official trick or treating around the block. Yes, Coryn HAD to have a different costume every time each day we did something.

Pumpkin carving is a new experience every year it seems... Carter was willing at first, then grossed out.




Coryn didn't want to at first, but for the sake of trying new things, he slimed himself. :D






The one with 'scary teeth' is Carter's design, and the 'spooky mouth' is Coryn's design.
















There were several opportunities for candy collection, which was good because Halloween evening was sooooo cold, we only went around one block. I suppose that's what you get after it snowed that morning. (We trick-or-treated with some good friends we met in Okinawa and managed to follow to New York)

Halloween!

There was a slew of parties lined up... first my ACGO meeting which I didn't know was supposed to be costumed, so Coryn got to choose from a box of stuff, as you can see he went with the ever popular giant pink sequined hat. Yes, he's busting a move.

Here we all are in our costumes (Jackson is an Afghan) at a Japanese Halloween party we were invited to, which was quite different. They had games, costumes, and a haunted house of course, but different none-the-less. They handed out candy bags to everyone on the way in, including adults. They had a card to fill out signature squares for each game. We didn't know what to expect so I brought some candy to hand out, and after I gave it to the lady that invited me she ran off and brought the guy in charge over to personally thank me for our donation. :)

Japanese costumes are quite haphazard, although possibly more creative... in general they don't quite know what to do with Halloween, its not in their culture. This is one of the games they had set up, fishing for candy, and these guys dressed appropriately in octopus and turtle getup. Another game they had was really fun, they filled a small room with crumpled newspaper and had strewn candy about for people to jump in and find.

We carved a pumpkin the day before and this is Coryn's first look at it lit up. He chose the design and watched me carve it. We even baked the seeds. Needless to say, there is way too much candy in the house. Still.

Trunk Or Treat

We went to a trunk or treat at Krispy Kreme which was sponsored by the local police to support Special Olympics. Here they are pulling their cop-on-a -doughnut-shop stunt.

Coryn was Super Why from the PBS show of the same name. He loves being a super reader, I am often any of the others... Alpha Pig, Wonder Red, or Princess Presto.

Had to shake hands with Ratatouille, I'm assuming because he shook hands with McGruff the crime dog.

In case you were wondering, yes this is still in Boise, and yes it was after we were supposed to leave, but thats a story for another post.

Halloween

Halloween was a smorgasborg of fun filled times for Coryn. Our playgroup had a trick-or-(healthy)treat session the Friday before, Coryn's first memory building experience with the matter. It was super windy that day, so I had to stow his hat and attach a chin strap later.
One of the ladies made cupcakes... Coryn ate the frosting.
Later that evening was the company party which I was in charge of. It went fairly well, and Coryn got to decorate his own candy bag. We had a pumpkin carving contest and a door decorating contest as well as a huge potluck and tp mummies.
Here's the whole ensemble, he was really good at saying trick-or-treat and thank you to everyone. He only got scared once at a dummy of a guy lifting his head off. There were a ton of kids, about half of which were Japanese, its not really something they do as a culture but the kids have fun dressing scary and taking candy from Americans :)

Trick or Treating was a lot of work, but rewarding... especially at Great Grandma's where they had my favorites!

Happy Halloween!

Ok, I know its a couple days early, but I didn't want to miss it. News update... Coryn now has eight teeth and I'm pretty sure he prefers grown up food to baby food (who wouldn't, plus he gets to play with it). Friday Coryn took his first steps and those of you who have myspace can see a little video of him. He still prefers crawling but I'm sure that won't be for too much longer. He says some words that he means to say now. He says duckie and dog and likes to growl when you point to animals (all animals) and I think he means me when he says mom now...

Jackson is still in Virginia, but he'll be able to come home for Christmas weather permitting. He seems to be doing well in his officer course too.

All is well on the home front, keeping busy with birthdays lately, we have a lot in the fall. We are also preparing for Coryn's first birthday, between shots and icecream it will be a busy day and if he had any sense of anticipation he would be excited about the impending move to a larger front facing car seat!
