randomness from awhile ago

spotted while shopping in August, its in his room now.
His 'friend' from across the street, he always wants to 'go hello Wesley' but then he runs away because Wesley is a crazy boy and Coryn doesn't like getting touched by kids his age. Here Wes is enticing Coryn to join him in a ride in his birthday present, but Coryn's also afraid of the sudden noise and motion of the powerwheels.
Hand chair... yes you can get weird stuff here too.

Finally, a sleepy boy.

Happy Birthday!

He's a terrible two now, and we celebrated the event, complete with cake, which he again ate the frosting from. We invited a couple of neighbors who's names he knows over, one of whom he's taken on as a kind of surrogate grandmother.
Opening his first present he was gentle with the paper, not wanting to hurt it, but then he got the hang of it and he rips mercilessly. Here he has his first real game, matching bears. He calls it 'the same game', and though he's not quite ready for the flip two at a time to find matches, he does like having them strewn across the table so he can find the bears, most of which have affectionate names now (ie: grumpy bear, green bear, binkie bear).
We got him a CD player we found in one of the Japanese stores here, the CD goes in the tree stump, honey pots for speakers, and dancing Pooh characters. He also got a couple of airplanes from the neighbor boys, and takes them everywhere.
Usually in the back of his tricycle, which he rides in circles around the house. He also sings songs about his trike now too ("riding a bicycle, riding a bicycle"). He loves all of his presents!

Halloween

Halloween was a smorgasborg of fun filled times for Coryn. Our playgroup had a trick-or-(healthy)treat session the Friday before, Coryn's first memory building experience with the matter. It was super windy that day, so I had to stow his hat and attach a chin strap later.
One of the ladies made cupcakes... Coryn ate the frosting.
Later that evening was the company party which I was in charge of. It went fairly well, and Coryn got to decorate his own candy bag. We had a pumpkin carving contest and a door decorating contest as well as a huge potluck and tp mummies.
Here's the whole ensemble, he was really good at saying trick-or-treat and thank you to everyone. He only got scared once at a dummy of a guy lifting his head off. There were a ton of kids, about half of which were Japanese, its not really something they do as a culture but the kids have fun dressing scary and taking candy from Americans :)

Old News (Army Baseball)

Jackson got involved with his unit's baseball team, and the location doesn't suck.
Beautiful skies, beautiful ocean, and I suppose his team is pitching... thats our chaplain pitching, his wife was quite pregnant when they showed up right at the beginning of the season but he managed to make it to most of the games.
Here's Jackson in the outfield, wishing he could turn around and enjoy the view.
A little more action going on here, he was one of the better batters.

Coryn didn't appreciate the games so much, we didn't go to very many of them, and by the end he was very tearful that he couldn't go on the field with daddy. Jackson's group did pretty well, they finished third I think? they made it to the semifinals anyway.
CORRECTION: For the record, we finished second and made it to the finals. To have won it all we would have had to win three in a row the last night of the season and were only able to pull off the first two... we'll get 'em next year!

Old News (Move to Big Bed)

We decided it was time to move Coryn to a big boy bed, so we started taking apart the crib to move it out.
Coryn wasn't very happy, but it was more because we kept telling him to not be in the way so he wouldn't get crushed if something fell over.
He was tenative about the new bed, especially since he would have to get in by himself, but he was very tempted by the multitude of Pooh Bears all over the sheets.
He finally went for it, and here he's just discovered that there is a huge Pooh on his brand new pillow, which he was also excited about.
See the look of joy in his face? And we haven't had much trouble with it since. He's only fallen out once, but thats because he fell asleep between his pillow and the opening and shifted himself off. All in all a huge success.

Pretty Toes

I love Cocok's! Sadly the first time wasn't documented, but it was pretty too! The ladies here can paint just about anything on your nails, they have huge books full of images to choose from and its a full pedicure with oil massage and foot care. The rest are in chronological order, just wait and see what I'll get for Christmas!

Okuma

Okuma is one of the military resorts available for service members, and its not a bad place to spend a couple nights...
Coryn hated putting on the life jacket, thought we were trying to kill him or something, but as soon as we got on the boat and started looking at the fish through the glass bottom he had a great time.
And well, most of you know how Jackson is with water.
There are some interesting creatures on this island, and we have no idea what these buggers are but the crabs hid from the camera so its what you get.

Its a Boy!

For those of you who don't know, I'm pregnant again. Currently 23 weeks along and doing fine. We had our big sonogram and found out that its another boy, so be ready for another heartbreaker! My favorite of the three pictures, he has his hand on his forehead, do you see it?
Now he's showing he's as sociable as his dad, waving hi to the camera.

It's a foot, the toes are on the left.

Sashimi (raw fish)

Yummy squid sashimi! No really, it was pretty dang good. There are more videos at Lisa's myspace!

The Evolution of the Smile

In the beginning, there was the smile, a simple look and grin.
And then, for some reason, it became a squint or eyes closed smile.
It morphed after getting that haircut into a glare and pursed lips. (mmm, baked potato)

And sometimes, it just gets crazy! But he still smiles normally most of the time.

Shave and a Hair Cut

I'm smiling, can you tell? Apparently haircuts make smiles look like kiss lips and squinty eyes. We had to resort to lap haircut again (third haircut) at the Japanese barber house 'Good Boy', behind the barber is a fish tank with a giant fish in it that helped distract Coryn.
My first professional shampoo, took it like a man... ok, screamed the whole time just like shampoo at home.
My first hairdrying, still not happy, 'loud' I say 'loud!'
Can you tell how happy I am to have my sucker? I'm smiling again, but I'm so tired I forgot how to use my mouth. (you can tell by the eyes) All in all an improvement from previous haircuts! (check out the newest video at Lisa's myspace!)

Just For You

Learning to get dressed myself.
Getting snazzy for a wedding (this is the face I make when people say 'smile' now)
Moving up in the world, I can now feed my parents with a spoon!

You may be wondering 'whats so special about this picture?', well... he managed to get the lid on the empty wipes open and was looking at it when he said 'potty you' (ever since I brought home the first potty trainer and told him it was a potty for him thats what he calls them) and sat on it.

Typhoon Man-Yi

Well, we survived our first typhoon (asian equivalance of hurricane) without any damage to us or our things. Our neighbor managed to get away with only a tumbling grill crossing our backyard. We must have a good spot though, because several people had it worse.

There was a grill in the front yard too, but we're not sure who it belongs to. Coryn seemed to enjoy the show, though he was scared at night and we had to put him in the hall to sleep.
Check out Lisa's myspace for a video of the action.

Front and Kitchen

Here's our abode.
Kitchen...
slash laundry...

slash pantry and art display. The door at the end opens to the entry way.
